Overview: The O’odham Course at Talking Stick Golf Club is a public Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw design in Scottsdale. It sits on the flat desert floor of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community and uses wide fairways, native surroundings and subtle green movement instead of a succession of forced carries. The result is a strategic, walkable desert course that rewards angles and restraint.
History: Talking Stick opened in 1998 as part of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community’s economic-development work. Coore and Crenshaw designed the two course routings, with the former North Course now carrying the O’odham name.
Did You Know? O’odham is the name of one of the Native peoples of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. Renaming the former North Course connects the golf facility to the community whose land, history and cultural identity surround the routing.
