Overview: Taiyo Golf Club is an 18-hole course in central Okinawa, located near Kurashiki Dam in Uruma City. The current U.S. Marine Corps Community Services description places the layout across 247 acres of rolling fairways, wetlands and scenic views, with elevation changes and large greens shaping the round. That setting gives Taiyo a different character from the island’s compact resort courses: it has room to stretch across a broad landscape, but the wetlands, changes of level and subtle green breaks still require careful placement. The course is part of Okinawa’s military golf network and is not an unrestricted public facility.
History: Taiyo opened in March 2010 and continues the long U.S. military golf tradition on Okinawa. Its name comes from the Japanese word for “sun,” a deliberate connection to the island and to the subtropical setting. The current facility combines the course with a driving range, academy, restaurant and pro shop, while the original concept emphasised a visually strong layout that could serve both competitive events and everyday golf. Current operating rules keep the course tied to the U.S. military community and approved guests rather than to general walk-in tourism.
Did You Know? Taiyo’s 247-acre property includes wetlands as well as rolling fairways. Those wetland corridors are part of the course’s visual identity, making the landscape feel broader and more ecological than a layout built only from clipped grass and artificial water features.
