Overview: Shirakaba is Taiheiyo Club Karuizawa Resort’s second 18-hole highland routing, with a current par of 72 and 6,531 yards. At around 1,300 metres elevation, the course plays through a cool mountain environment of birch, open ground and views towards the surrounding peaks. Its shorter scorecard than Asama does not remove the need for thoughtful positioning, particularly where the contours and tree lines narrow the preferred approach.
History: The facility opened in 1975 and its course design and modification work are credited to Shunsuke Kato in the current resort information. Shirakaba shares the resort’s 36-hole history with Asama, but it is a separate routing with its own par sequence and character. The highland season and the mountain climate remain central to how the course is maintained and experienced.
Did You Know? The name Shirakaba refers to the birch landscape associated with the course. The resort’s hole recommendations place the notable holes across the round rather than at one single signature, a fitting detail for a layout whose identity comes from the repeated meeting of trees, cool air and mountain light.
