Overview: Tahoe Donner Golf Course is a public mountain course in Truckee, set among High Sierra pines, creeks, granite and open high-country ground. The 18-hole, par-72 layout reaches about 7,002 yards from the back tees, with Roy Williams and Billy Bell Jr. associated with its design and Cary Bickler with a later renovation.
History: Roy Williams designed the front nine and Billy Bell Jr. completed and refined the back nine before the course opened in 1976. Cary Bickler led a renovation in 2006, followed by later repair work. The sequence explains why the course carries more than one architectural credit without indicating separate routings.
Did You Know? Tahoe Donner’s fairways move between pine forest, meadow and exposed granite-country ground. That mix gives the course changing sightlines and lies, and it also explains why the round feels more alpine than the lower-elevation parkland courses around the Sacramento region.
