Overview: Jack Nicklaus's Signature course at Sycamore Hills is a private 18-hole layout Design in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The layout occupies a former estate with mature trees, gentle hills and the Aboite River moving through the property. Its parkland character comes from the way the routing follows that existing landscape: fairways open into broader landing areas before narrowing toward bunkers, water and greens that reward a measured approach. At 7,275 yards and par 72 in the current directory record, it can stretch into a championship test, while the natural setting keeps the course from becoming a purely manufactured examination of distance.
History: The club was founded in July 1987, and the course officially opened on July 2, 1989, when Jack Nicklaus and Fort Wayne businessman Tom Kelley played the inaugural round. The course later developed a national reputation for design and conditioning. After a change of ownership in 2013, the new ownership group undertook a multi-million-dollar renovation of the course and clubhouse, and Nicklaus Design has remained involved in preserving the original design intent.
Did You Know? Sycamore Hills hosted the 2013 U.S. Girls' Junior Championship. The USGA noted that the property was once a prominent Fort Wayne family estate and that the Nicklaus routing incorporates the native woodland along the Aboite River, giving the tournament venue a strong sense of place.
