Overview: Sweetgrass Golf Club is a public Upper Peninsula course in Harris, Michigan, designed by Paul Albanese. Its open routing uses distinctive green forms, native landscape, crafted bridges and subtle cultural references to create a modern links-influenced course with a strong sense of place.
History: Sweetgrass was developed as the golf centerpiece beside the Island Resort & Casino and quickly became part of the Hannahville Indian Community’s broader destination. Albanese shaped the course around the land and the community’s Potawatomi heritage rather than adding cultural references as decoration.
Did You Know? Many holes are named for Potawatomi clans, villages, allies, medicines and symbols. The course’s architecture and naming system are therefore connected to the community that owns and operates it.
