Overview: Located on the scenic Ras Tanura peninsula, Surfside Golf Club is one of the original "industrial" sand courses built for Saudi Aramco employees in the mid-20th century. The 18-hole layout is a pure desert-sand experience where the fairways wind along the shores of the Arabian Gulf. Instead of traditional greens, golfers putt on "browns"—surfaces of compacted, oiled sand that require a unique touch and technical precision. It is a historic piece of Gulf recreational history, preserved for the residents of one of the world’s most important energy hubs.
Did You Know? The name "Surfside" is a literal description of the course’s layout; several holes play directly alongside the gulf waters, offering sea breezes and coastal views that are rare for a traditional sand course. Playing at Surfside is a step back in time to the early days of oil exploration, where expatriates and locals alike created a vibrant golfing subculture out of the raw desert and sea-spray of the Eastern Province.
