Overview: The Lost Gold Course at Superstition Mountain is a private Jack Nicklaus and Jack Nicklaus II design on the edge of Arizona’s Superstition Mountains. Its links-styled desert routing uses generous fairways, native areas, dry washes, and strategic bunkering to create a more open contrast to the neighboring Prospector Course.
History: Lost Gold opened in 1999 as the second Nicklaus Design course at Superstition Mountain. The course was created as a distinct companion to Prospector, with its own desert-landscape identity and a layout that emphasizes varied shot values rather than simply repeating the first course.
Did You Know? The Lost Gold name draws on the legends of Jacob Waltz, the prospector associated with stories of hidden gold in the Superstition Mountains. The course uses that local mythology as part of the identity of a real desert landscape.
