Overview: Superior Golf & Spa Resort is an 18-hole, par-72 course in an oak-forested setting on the edge of Kharkiv. Its development combined the work of American shaper Brian Smith on the opening nine with Australian course superintendent Andrew Glen’s work on the second nine. The completed routing measures about 6,303 metres, or approximately 6,893 yards, and uses water, large bunkers, wooded edges and open fairway corridors to create a varied resort course. The second hole’s island green is one of its clearest visual signatures.
History: The club’s project began in 2006 as a smaller training facility. The first nine entered play in 2007, and a second nine was completed in 2012, creating the full 18-hole course. The surrounding resort added its five-star hotel in 2011, and the expanded golf course quickly took on a national tournament role. In 2013, it hosted the Kharkiv Superior Cup on the European Challenge Tour, won by Daan Huizing. That sequence, from training ground to 18-hole course and tournament venue, explains the facility’s importance in Ukrainian golf history.
Did You Know? The second hole is a par-three played to an island green, a detail recorded in the course’s ranking profile and independent course histories. The feature is especially distinctive because it appears early in the round, after the opening hole has introduced the oak-woodland setting and the course’s use of water as a strategic hazard.
