Overview: Ed Ryder’s Classic Course at Suntree Country Club gives Melbourne a traditional layout with Celebration Bermuda tees and fairways, Champion ultra-dwarf greens and a back-tee length of about 6,980 yards.
History: Ed Ryder designed the Classic Course in the late 1970s. It became nationally known through the Senior PGA Classic, which Suntree says was played on the course during the 1980s and welcomed players including Julius Boros, Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer and Don January.
Did You Know? The Classic Course hosted the Senior PGA Tour for a ten-year showcase from 1980 to 1990, according to the club’s historical course information. That tournament era is the most important part of the course’s public golf history.
