Overview: Sungai Long Golf & Country Club is an 18-hole private parkland course in Bandar Sungai Long, Kajang, within the Kuala Lumpur golf market. Nicklaus Design lists the course as open in 1993, and current course information gives par 72 with about 7,015 yards from the back tees. The layout was planned as the centre of a self-contained township, but the golf remains visually green, with strategically placed bunkers, contoured greens and ponds influencing both tee shots and approaches.
History: Sungai Long was developed as Malaysia's first Jack Nicklaus-designed international championship course, according to the club and Nicklaus Design references. The partnership behind the township linked the golf course to a broader country-living development, so the course's history is inseparable from the residential landscape around it. It has remained a private club with a deliberately limited golfing membership, while still being recognized in contemporary course guides as an important Kuala Lumpur-area routing.
Did You Know? More than 800 yards separate the back, club and front tee totals listed in current course material, allowing the same routing to change substantially in scale. Four ponds affect three fairways and two par threes, so the Nicklaus strategy is not only about length. Generous-looking corridors still require accurate positioning, and the green contours make the approach and first putt meaningful parts of the design rather than an afterthought.
