Overview: Strand Golf Club is an exposed False Bay course where the South African coastal wind is as important as the bunkers and water. The current 18-hole, par-72 layout stretches to about 6,817 from the blue markers in the published course card, with open fairways, wetland edges and views toward the Hottentots-Holland mountains. The sea is close enough to change club selection even when it is not visible from every shot.
History: The current course opened in 1994 after the club’s earlier shoreline layout was replaced. Golf Data and Mark Muller are associated with the modern design, which uses the flat coastal ground to create a course that can appear generous from the tee and exacting at the green. Strand has since become a natural companion to the Winelands and Cape Town golf routes.
Did You Know? The finishing holes bring the water and wind back into focus. The 17th and 18th are especially memorable because a round that seemed controlled on the inland holes can be reshaped quickly by the exposed final stretch and the demand for a confident closing approach.
