Overview: Stoke Park is a historic parkland setting built around an English country estate, with the mansion, mature trees and open fairways forming a distinctive backdrop to the Colt and Alison course identity. The layout uses broad areas of parkland, strategic bunkering and carefully placed green complexes rather than dramatic natural elevation. It is a course where the setting and architectural detail are as important to the experience as the scorecard.
History: When Nick Lane Jackson and the Corinthians established Stoke Park as a country club, Harry Colt was commissioned to design the golf course. The estate had already been shaped by Capability Brown and the mansion’s long history predates the golf club. Stoke Park’s golf heritage includes the first PGA Matchplay Championship, and the club has continued to develop the property while preserving its historic landscape.
Did You Know? The course is associated with the 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger, whose golf sequence used Stoke Park as its setting. Published scorecards also show that different combinations of the Colt, Alison and Lane Jackson routings can be played across the 27-hole facility.
