Overview: Steelwood is a private Jerry Pate design in Loxley, Alabama, laid across rolling ground, hardwood forest and natural wetlands. The course creates elevation in an otherwise relatively flat coastal region, then uses Steelwood Lake to frame the opening and closing portions of the round. The result is a parkland layout where water views and wooded corridors alternate naturally.
History: The course was built in the late 1990s and is identified in golf-course records as a 1997 Jerry Pate design. Pate’s work established the 18-hole course as the centerpiece of the Steelwood community, with the property’s lake and wetland landscape retained as major visual elements.
Did You Know? More than one third of the course offers views of Steelwood Lake, including the 18th hole. Pate also created noticeable elevation changes and fairway undulations despite the region’s generally flat topography, making the landform itself part of the design story.
