Overview: At St. Joseph Country Club, the Missouri layout pairs tree-lined fairways with zoysia turf and a compact parkland character. The holes ask for accuracy rather than indiscriminate power, particularly where bunkers and small greens narrow the preferred approach. Its long local history is still visible in the routing and in the club’s continuing championship use.
History: The club was formed in 1898, but the golf course dates to 1912. A.W. Tillinghast inspected the course in 1936 and recommended bunker and hole changes, while later work by Donald Sechrest and Bob Dunning also shaped the current presentation. The course was renovated again in 2003.
Did You Know? The 1912 layout used a 6-6-6 arrangement of par threes, fours and fives. One long par-three sequence later changed, and the sixth hole was converted to a long par four around 1976, showing how the routing has evolved without losing its original framework.
