Overview: St. Johns Golf Club is the county-owned 18-hole public course at 4900 Cypress Links Boulevard in Elkton. The current official scorecard lists par 71 and 7,009 yards from the championship tees. Erik Larsen's renovation brought a more strategic, classic parkland character to the course, with pine corridors, template greens and substantial tee choice.
History: St. Johns opened in 1989 as a county course, originally part of a 27-hole facility. Nine holes were later closed, and Erik Larsen led an $8 million renovation that reopened the current 18-hole routing in November 2022. The new layout draws on the traditions of C.B. Macdonald and Seth Raynor.
Did You Know? The renovation introduced Biarritz, Punchbowl and Redan-style greens. Those templates give the public course an architectural vocabulary more often associated with older private clubs, while the county ownership keeps the facility open to everyday golfers.
