Overview: St George’s Hill Red/Green is the Surrey club’s second stored 18-hole combination, pairing the Red and Green nines over sandy heathland ground. The setting is defined by heather, pines, mature trees and natural undulation, with Harry Colt’s original design giving the club its architectural foundation. Peter Preston later upgraded the Green nine. Current par and yardage are dependent on the club’s composite setup, so they are not guessed in this profile. The exact Red/Green identity is retained for comparing the club’s available routings.
History: The original St George’s Hill course was ready in 1913 and helped establish the club as one of England’s notable heathland venues. The present three-nine structure allows Red, Blue and Green to be combined, while later work has changed individual loops without erasing the Colt character. Red/Green therefore represents a current routing built from an historic course and a later Green-nine intervention, not a separate club founded in a different year.
Did You Know? The Red/Green and Blue/Green combinations share one nine but do not play as the same course. The Red opening gives the round a different sequence of hazards and approach angles before the Green finish. Because the final nine is reached after a different opening, the same heathland features can produce a noticeably different strategic rhythm.
