Overview: St George’s Hill is a spectacular, "rollercoaster" heathland course that represents the absolute pinnacle of Harry Colt’s architectural genius. Set within an exclusive estate in Surrey, the course is defined by its dramatic elevation changes, its deep ravines, and its stunning vistas of towering Scots pines and silver birch. The routing is a strategic marvel that takes players on a journey through some of the most rugged and beautiful terrain in the home counties. It is a "Golden Age" masterpiece that prizes variety and imagination, where every hole feels like a unique discovery and the relationship between the golf and the natural landscape is one of total harmony.
History: The club was the vision of developer Walter George Tarrant, who in 1911 sought to create the world’s first luxury residential estate integrated with a championship golf course. Colt was given first pick of the most dramatic land on the property, and he responded with a design that has remained a fixture in world rankings for over a century. The iconic red-brick clubhouse, perched on a hilltop overlooking the 1st and 18th holes, was originally used as a military hospital during World War I, and it remains one of the most recognizable and prestigious landmarks in English golf.
Did You Know? The par-3 8th hole on the Red nine is widely considered one of the finest short holes ever built. It requires a high, precise shot across a massive, heather-filled ravine to reach a plateau green that is carved into the hillside. It is a quintessential St George’s Hill challenge: visually intimidating, strategically perfect, and entirely unforgettable.
