Overview: Spring Creek Ranch occupies the former Meyer Family Bull Ranch in Collierville, east of Memphis, where Jack Nicklaus routed an 18-hole Signature course through woodlands, wetlands, recirculating creeks and open ranch ground. The layout is a rare Nicklaus design that lets the land do much of the visual work: tee shots cross broad corridors, then approaches negotiate water, creek edges and fast, contoured greens. A double-fairway par five gives the course one of its most memorable strategic choices, while the preserved Red Barn and low-density setting reinforce the ranch character. The result is a quiet parkland course whose challenge comes from placement and changing angles more than manufactured spectacle.
History: Spring Creek Ranch began in 1970 as the 500-acre Meyer Family Bull Ranch. The concept for a golf club emerged from a conversation between Jack Nicklaus and Dr. Meyer, and Nicklaus designed the course around the property's existing terrain rather than flattening it. The golf course held its grand opening on December 3, 1999, and soon received national attention, including a No. 2 ranking in Golf Digest's Best New Private Club category. The Golf House followed in 2007, and the club continues to frame its golf story around conservation, ranch heritage and a highly personal relationship with the Golden Bear.
Did You Know? The tee sets are named after prize-winning bulls from the ranch, with the championship tees called the Bravo Tees after the property's most celebrated bull. The club's recurring Bull and Bear event plays on the nicknames of Dr. Meyer and Jack Nicklaus. Nicklaus later returned for a ceremonial round in 2004, adding a fitting postscript to the course's origin story.
