Overview: Located in Southern Pines, Southern Pines Golf Club is a historic public course designed by Donald Ross. The layout features a classic Sandhills routing characterized by rolling terrain, natural sandy waste areas, and signature undulating greens. The course offers a strategic and accessible test of golf that emphasizes placement off the tee and precise approach angles.
History: Opened in 1906 as a nine-hole course, the layout was expanded to eighteen holes by Donald Ross in 1912. For over a century, the course remained a popular local venue. In 2021, architect Kyle Franz led a comprehensive restoration of the course, removing invasive trees, restoring the original sandy waste areas, and recovering Ross's lost green contours.
Did You Know? The club was purchased in 2020 by the Pine Needles and Mid Pines ownership group, bringing three historic Donald Ross designs in the area under unified management and care.
