Overview: Southern Hills Country Club occupies rolling ground south of Tulsa, where Perry Maxwell placed the Championship Course around natural valleys, creeks and broad landforms. The routing combines strategic angles with bold green contours, and the 2019 restoration returned many details toward Maxwell's original intent.
History: The club was established in 1935 on land donated by Waite Phillips, and Perry Maxwell designed the course during the Great Depression. Opening day was May 23, 1936; later additions include the West Nine in 1992 and a 2019 restoration of the Championship Course.
Did You Know? Southern Hills has hosted five PGA Championships, three U.S. Opens and the 2022 PGA Championship. Its 12th green was influenced during original construction by Don Bothwell, who worked closely with Maxwell.
