Overview: Sobienie Krolewskie Championship is a modern links-style course south of Warsaw, built on sandy ground and shaped to suggest the strategic variety of British and Irish links. The Ford Golf Design team used open fairways, deliberately planted vegetation, roughs and water hazards to create a course that looks mature while still belonging to a relatively young landscape. At par 71, the routing rewards attention and position: the broad setting can look inviting, but poorly judged lines quickly bring its hazards into play.
History: The first nine holes entered play in September 2010, followed by the official opening of the full 18-hole course in June 2012. Polish Golf Union reports identify Jeremy Ford and Jonathan Davison among the architects involved, with Richard D'Elia leading shaping work. The project was developed as part of the wider Sobienie Krolewskie estate and helped establish a major golf destination within reach of Warsaw.
Did You Know? The designers wanted Sobienie Krolewskie to look mature from its first day. The club's course description explains that specific vegetation, shaped roughs and carefully placed water were used to create that illusion, giving a newly built course a visual depth normally associated with older landscapes.
