Overview: Sleepy Hollow Golf Course is an 18-hole public layout in Cleveland Metroparks' Brecksville Reservation, where the fairways move through the wooded Cuyahoga River Valley. Stanley Thompson's design uses the land's natural changes in elevation rather than forcing a flat sequence of holes. The official 2025 scorecard measures 6,648 yards from the black tees at par 71. Early holes on each nine run downhill and with the prevailing wind, while the return holes climb and often play into it, creating a course that can seem shorter on the way out and longer on the way home.
History: The course opened in 1924 as a private country club on land leased from Cleveland Metroparks. It became open to public play in 1963 and has since been part of the park system's golf portfolio. Thompson, a member of the Royal Canadian Golf Hall of Fame, designed the routing as a classic out-and-in course. The property has hosted USGA qualifying events and remains a venue for the Greater Cleveland Amateur, connecting its historic design with modern competitive golf.
Did You Know? Sleepy Hollow's strategy changes with the direction of play. A downhill opening stretch can invite confidence, but the incoming holes demand more from the same scorecard distance because the ground rises and the wind often works against the shot. The par-five 14th and short par-four 17th are official examples of the course's risk-and-reward character, giving players opportunities that still depend on choosing the right line.
