Overview: Simbithi Country Club is an 18-hole executive course on KwaZulu-Natal’s North Coast, designed for strategic variety rather than championship length. Peter Matkovich’s layout plays to par 60 and moves through indigenous vegetation, restored natural areas and the old sugar-cane landscape of the estate. Shorter holes still demand precise lines, because the surrounding bush and shaped greens make a missed target immediately visible.
History: Simbithi was developed within a coastal conservation estate created from former agricultural land. Golf formed part of the community’s outdoor framework, with the course kept in close contact with the estate’s natural corridors instead of being isolated from them. Its executive format broadens the kinds of golfers who can use the course while preserving a full 18-hole rhythm.
Did You Know? Every hole carries a name taken from an area or feature of the former farm. The names act as a small map of the land before the estate was built, so the course’s scorecard records local history as well as par and stroke index.
