Overview: The Hankins Course at Silvies Valley Ranch is the longer of the two reversible 18-hole routings on a working ranch in eastern Oregon. Dan Hixson shaped the course across open ridges, meadowland and high-desert ground, using the wind and the broad scale of the valley as major strategic elements. At 8,000 yards from the back markers and par 72, it is a substantial test, but its width and natural setting prevent the length from becoming the only story. The course asks players to manage exposure, uneven lies and the changing direction of the holes rather than simply chase distance.
History: The Silvies Valley Ranch golf complex was built in 2017 on a large working cattle and goat ranch. Hixson created the Hankins and Craddock courses as a reversible pair, with the same greens, fairways and hazards serving different hole numbers and directions on alternating days. The Hankins name honours the ranch’s historical families, while the property’s agricultural use remains visible around the course. Alongside the two full layouts are the nine-hole Egan course and the seven-hole McVeigh’s Gauntlet, making the ranch a multi-format golf destination rather than a single 18-hole facility.
Did You Know? Hankins and Craddock are not two separate parcels. The same 18 holes are played in opposite directions, so the course can turn one day’s green into another day’s tee or fairway and alter the strategy of familiar ground.
