Overview: The Craddock Course at Silvies Valley Ranch is an 18-hole high-desert layout that runs across ridges overlooking the valley in eastern Oregon. Dan Hixson shaped the course with broad fairways, native ground, large changes in elevation and views across a working ranch landscape. Its defining feature is that the routing is reversible: on one day the holes play in the Craddock direction, and on the next the same land is used as the Hankins Course in the opposite direction. That unusual arrangement gives the land two distinct strategic readings, with bunkers and greens changing roles as the direction changes.
History: Silvies Valley Ranch developed its golf complex in 2017 as part of a working cattle and goat ranch in remote eastern Oregon. Hixson designed two full 18-hole courses that share the same ground and can be reversed, along with the shorter Egan course and McVeigh’s Gauntlet. The Craddock course is named for the Craddock family, whose members settled and consolidated much of the valley. The ranch’s older agricultural identity remains part of the golf setting, so the course is not an isolated resort landscape but a routing woven into a large operating property.
Did You Know? Craddock and Hankins use the same 18-hole ground in opposite directions. A bunker can serve one course as a greenside hazard and the other as a fairway feature, an architectural trick that makes the property unlike a conventional fixed routing.
