Overview: Sierra Star Golf Club is a public mountain course in Mammoth Lakes, designed by Cal Olsen at roughly 8,000 feet. The 18-hole, par-70 routing reaches about 6,708 yards, threading Jeffrey pine and red fir through mountain streams, open wildflower ground and views toward Mammoth Mountain.
History: The course was built and opened in 1999 under Cal Olsen’s design. Its high-elevation setting creates a shorter seasonal window than coastal California courses, but the routing uses the available Sierra terrain directly, with forest, meadow and stream corridors changing the feel from hole to hole.
Did You Know? The course sits near 8,000 feet, where thinner mountain air, cooler conditions and surrounding conifer forest materially change the way the course looks and plays. That high-country setting is a defining part of the routing, not merely a backdrop.
