Overview: Shore Gate Golf Club is a public 18-hole course in Ocean View, New Jersey, built through the coastal plain by Ronald Fream and David Dale. The official course guide lists par 72 and 7,227 yards from the black tees. Tree-lined fairways, sandy ground, ponds and large putting surfaces create a South Jersey course that looks inviting from the tee but becomes demanding around the approach. The routing uses generous-looking landing areas, angled hazards and several forced carries to make position more important than raw distance, while multiple tee sets allow the course to be scaled to different players.
History: Shore Gate opened in 2002 and quickly became one of the Jersey Shore’s best-known new public courses. The course’s own history records national recognition from both Golf Digest and Golf Magazine, as well as repeated appearances among New Jersey’s leading public layouts. Fream and Dale shaped the holes across the Cape May County landscape with a design brief that balances broad playing corridors and serious championship length. Its location near the shore gives the course a different personality from the parkland clubs farther north: the land is flatter, the wind matters more and the sandy terrain is always part of the strategy.
Did You Know? Shore Gate’s official hole guide counts seven ponds and 88 bunkers across the course. The black tees reach 7,227 yards, but the scorecard also offers blue, white, gold and red layouts, making the same hazard patterns play very differently from one set of markers to another.
