Overview: Sherwood Country Club is a private facility nestled at the base of the Santa Monica Mountains in Thousand Oaks, California. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, the course features an 18-hole layout characterized by mature oak trees, water hazards, and mountain views. The design utilizes the natural contours of the valley, requiring players to shape shots around groves of protected trees and sand hazards.
History: Opened in 1989, Sherwood was developed as a premier private enclave in Southern California. The course hosted the Chevron World Challenge, hosted by Tiger Woods, from 2000 to 2013, and later hosted the Zozo Championship in 2020. Nicklaus returned in 2016 to lead a complete restoration, rebuilding the greens and modernizing the strategic options.
Did You Know? The surrounding Sherwood Valley has been used as a filming location for numerous classic movies, including the 1922 and 1938 Robin Hood films starring Douglas Fairbanks and Errol Flynn. The club was named Sherwood in honor of this cinematic history. The distinctive terrain has also appeared in various television shows and commercials over the decades.
