Overview: Sheringham is a clifftop coastal course on the North Norfolk coast, with the North Sea and the heritage steam railway beside its high ground. The course is exposed to wind, with gorse and firm turf adding definition to the fairways and greens; the commonly published championship figure is 6,546 yards at par 70.
History: Tom Dunn laid out the original course in 1891, and it was extended to eighteen holes in 1898. Sheringham has since remained a distinctive clifftop test and has hosted national women’s events, including the English Women’s Championship in 1920.
Did You Know? Sheringham’s railway border is part of the playing experience: the Poppy Line steam railway runs alongside the course and is visible from the clifftop holes.
