Overview: Shenendoah is a Rick Smith course at Turning Stone Resort in Verona, New York. Its rolling Oneida landscape combines parkland, links-like, and low-country influences, with wetlands, native grasses, and broad fairway corridors shaping the round. The par-72 layout is a full resort test that rewards a committed line into its changing approach zones.
History: Shenendoah was Turning Stone’s original 18-hole course and opened around the start of the resort’s golf program. Rick Smith returned to oversee a major redesign in 2016, which introduced seven new holes and refined the routing, shot variety, and visual character without abandoning the course’s original identity.
Did You Know? Turning Stone deliberately spells the course name Shenendoah. Its natural areas are maintained to Audubon International standards, and the resort describes the layout as a blend of parkland, links, and low-country styles rather than a single architectural category.
