Shanty Creek (Legend)

Overview: The Legend at Shanty Creek is an Arnold Palmer resort course in Bellaire, Michigan. Its routing uses elevation changes, doglegs, water hazards, and views toward Lake Bellaire to create a classic northern-Michigan resort round with more movement than its wooded setting first suggests.

History: Shanty Creek began as a four-season resort in the early 1960s, and the Arnold Palmer-designed Legend followed after the resort’s 1980s consolidation. The course helped establish Bellaire as a golf destination and remains one of the resort’s signature layouts.

Did You Know? The name Shanty Creek came from an old trapper’s shanty located near the modern seventh and eighth holes of The Legend. The resort’s golf name therefore preserves a physical trace of the property’s earlier local history.
