Overview: Settlers Bay Golf Course uses the wooded Mat-Su Valley landscape around Wasilla, with spruce, open ground, and views toward the Chugach Mountains and Knik Arm. Ted Locke’s routing combines broad natural corridors with elevation changes and a sequence that feels distinctly Alaskan.
History: Construction began with nine holes in 1977, while the Alaska Golf Association records the full course as opening in 1978. The club later added nine more holes, creating the current 18-hole configuration.
Did You Know? Settlers Bay names its holes after stops on the Iditarod Trail, connecting the course’s identity to one of Alaska’s best-known long-distance traditions.
