Overview: The Serapong is the 18-hole, par-72 course at Sentosa Golf Club on Singapore's Sentosa Island. The profile in the directory measures 7,400 yards and is associated with Ronald Fream's original 1982 design, later reshaped through major work by the Gene Bates Golf Design Group in 2007 and Andrew Johnston in 2020. Its coastal setting brings the Singapore Strait and the city's skyline into the round, while the layout uses broad mounding, changing elevation, water and large bunker complexes to make approach angles important. The course is distinct from Sentosa's Tanjong course, even though both share the same clubhouse, island setting and tournament history.
History: Sentosa Golf Club was officially opened in 1974, and The Serapong became its second 18-hole course in 1982. The original routing was credited to Ronald Fream. A substantial 2007 renovation was carried out under the Gene Bates Golf Design Group, and the club's 2020 renovation was led by Andrew Johnston, who is also identified by the club as its resident golf course designer. The Serapong has hosted the Singapore Open since 2005, along with other professional and amateur events, so its modern identity has been shaped both by the land and by repeated championship preparation.
Did You Know? The run from the third through the seventh hole is known as the Dragon's Tail. The fifth is described in tournament course notes as a signature par four, while the sixth includes a rock formation called the Dragon's Tooth and a false front known as the Dragon's Tongue. These names give a local vocabulary to a stretch where the course's landforms become part of the strategy.
