Overview: Seminole Golf Club is a Donald Ross course in Juno Beach, routed between Atlantic dunes and a sandy ridge on the western side of the property. Its rectangular site produces a remarkable variety of wind directions, while angled greens, shallow fairway bunkers, and firm sandy ground make position more important than brute length. The design has a quiet, natural scale, but the strategic demands continue right through the closing holes.
History: Edward F. Hutton developed Seminole in 1929, and Donald Ross completed the course and Marion Wyeth-designed clubhouse in the same year. Dick Wilson rebuilt the bunkers in the postwar period, and Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw later undertook a three-year renovation focused on lower bunker forms and exposed sandy expanses. The core routing remains recognizably Ross.
Did You Know? Ross used the dune ridges as a compass: holes repeatedly turn toward different horizons, so the wind changes direction from one part of the course to the next. That routing idea is the course's most enduring piece of strategy.
