Overview: Sembawang Country Club is a woodland course in northern Singapore, set within the former Sembawang military landscape. The course’s character comes from mature trees, a gently changing site and the contrast between a long-established club setting and a modern redevelopment. It plays as an 18-hole, par-72 course, but the current 2026 routing should be treated as its own version rather than read from an old scorecard. Golfplan’s work has focused on safety, conditioning, greens, tees, bunkers and the flow between holes while preserving the course’s north-Singapore identity.
History: Sembawang began in 1967 as a nine-hole course laid out by British Royal Marines and became a full 18-hole course in 1977. Chris Pitman remodelled the course in 2013, after which a further Golfplan-led redevelopment reshaped several holes and upgraded the playing infrastructure. The full 18-hole course reopened in August 2026 after a staged period in which only a back-nine layout was in play. The date and sequence are recorded here because they are more useful to visitors than an outdated single opening year.
Did You Know? The original course was built with an unusual wartime-material connection. Historical club material says the foundations beneath the grass and sand of the greens included material recovered from Second World War pillboxes that had been demolished at Changi Beach. Sembawang’s current identity therefore combines a military landscape, a long club history and a modern sustainability-focused renovation led by Golfplan.
