Overview: Seacroft Golf Club is a traditional out-and-back links on the southern edge of Skegness, running beside Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve towards The Wash. The holes lie between two parallel ridges of dunes on free-draining sand, giving firm turf through most of the year. The white-tee scorecard covers 6,492 yards for a par of 71, and the wind direction usually splits the round into two very different halves. Its sandy coastal soil drains quickly, but the open ground leaves shots exposed to the wind moving across the flat Lincolnshire shoreline.
History: The club was formed on 24 April 1895 as Skegness Golf Club, using the Vine Hotel as its first clubhouse. Tom Dunn laid out the original nine holes, and by 1900 Willie Fernie had extended the links to eighteen. Later adjustments came from Sir Guy Campbell, who reworked holes 12 to 16 in 1923, and more recently from Donald Steel and Tom Mackenzie.
Did You Know? The neighbouring Gibraltar Point reserve is a noted site for migrating birds, and the links shares its dune system, so wildlife watchers and golfers often cover the same ground.
