Overview: The Maples Course is the original Sea Trail Golf Resort routing in Sunset Beach, North Carolina. Dan Maples designed the par-72, 18-hole course around Carolina pines, old oaks, Calabash Creek, undulating greens and strategically placed waste bunkers. The current course page lists 6,374 yards after a major restoration, with rebuilt greens, improved drainage, updated bunkers and expanded natural areas intended to sharpen the original character without discarding it.
History: Maples opened in the mid-1980s and is commonly dated to 1986. Sea Trail's recent renovation followed a full course closure and included new TifEagle greens, fairway-cut changes, irrigation improvements, refined bunkering and updated sightlines. The original opening and the later restoration are separate milestones in the history of this exact routing.
Did You Know? Five holes wind along scenic Calabash Creek, giving Maples a stronger waterway identity than its inland resort address might suggest. The course also contains a waste bunker that extends the full length of a fairway, a feature that makes the distinction between sand, strategy and visual intimidation especially clear.
