Overview: The Retreat Course at Sea Island is a coastal resort layout on St. Simons Island, Georgia. Davis Love III and Mark Love reshaped the former course to use coastal winds, pine and oak, marsh edges and changes in ground, creating a routing that feels connected to the Lowcountry rather than separated from it. The course's challenge comes from positioning and wind as much as distance.
History: The Retreat opened in 2001 after Davis Love III and Mark Love redesigned the former St. Simons Island Club course. The project completed Sea Island's 54-hole golf offering and established the Retreat as the resort's Love-designed routing.
Did You Know? The course's name describes its place within Sea Island's resort history rather than a separate island. It is one of several Sea Island courses whose design story has evolved from earlier club layouts through later architect-led renovations.
