Overview: Schoeman Park Golf Course Par 72 governs the full 18-hole round parkland layout in Bloemfontein, with the Free State’s high-altitude light, mature bluegums and wetland ground shaping the round. The blue-tee course measures about 6,643 metres, and the layout asks for a combination of straight driving and thoughtful approaches through tree-lined corridors. It is a classic inland course whose charm comes from the contrast between open skies and enclosed fairways.
History: The club’s story began in 1904 on a nine-hole railway course. The modern 18-hole Bob Grimsdell layout opened in 1952 and was later reworked by Peter Matkovich in 1995. Schoeman Park has hosted ten Sunshine Tour events, giving the club an important competitive history while the surrounding wetland and bluegum setting preserve a strong local identity.
Did You Know? The wetland was once drained to make room for the course, and the bluegum trees became one of its defining visual features. Those two elements now work together to make Schoeman Park feel established and green even in the dry inland climate around Bloemfontein.
