Overview: Scarboro is an 18-hole Tillinghast course in eastern Toronto, routed through the West Highland Creek valley. The championship reference is par 71 and 6,547 yards, a profile that rewards accuracy and positioning rather than simply length. The valley gives the course natural separation from the surrounding city, while tree-lined fairways, changing elevation and the movement of the creek create a steady sequence of decisions. Scarboro's appeal is the combination of a classic architectural pedigree and a setting that still feels open and rural once the round is underway.
History: A.E. Ames founded Scarboro in 1912 on a 144-acre site in Scarborough Heights. The clubhouse dates from 1914. A.W. Tillinghast was commissioned to redesign the course in 1924, and his work reached completion in August 1926. Scarboro hosted its first Canadian Open in 1940, later welcomed the Canadian Amateur and the World Series of Golf, and continued its championship tradition into the 21st century with the 2012 Canadian Tour Championship and the 2022 Ontario Amateur.
Did You Know? Jack Nicklaus was an 18-year-old first-round casualty when Scarboro hosted the Canadian Amateur in 1958. The detail captures the club's competitive history in miniature: the course has long been a serious test even for players whose careers were only beginning.
