Overview: The New Course is the more demanding of Sarfvik Golfklubi’s two 18-hole routings in Sundsberg, Kirkkonummi, west of Helsinki. Jan Sederholm’s 1991 design rises and falls through exposed rock, woodland edges and open views that give the inland property an archipelago character. The target record lists a par of 72 and 6,310 yards. Elevation change is a constant part of the round, while the tree lines frame the fairways without turning every hole into a narrow corridor.
History: Sarfvik is a 36-hole facility whose first routing dates to 1984, with the New Course following in 1991. Sederholm’s second routing was conceived as the longer and more demanding companion, and the club says it has been adjusted over the years to serve both ordinary club play and competition golf. That continuing refinement has kept the New Course’s rocky landscape and forest character intact while making the sequence easier to read from the tees.
Did You Know? The sixth hole reaches the shore of Finnträsk, while the fourteenth tee offers a view across the sea and its shipping lanes. The closing stretch is deliberately consequential: Sarfvik’s own description notes that the final two holes retain enough difficulty for a competition to remain unsettled until the last putt. The last tee also opens one of the course’s broadest views before the descent to the eighteenth green.
