Overview: São Fernando Golf Club is a private 18-hole parkland course in Cotia, west of São Paulo. The par-71 layout is arranged to keep much of the hole visible from the tee, so players can read the fairway and green before committing to a line. That clarity does not make the course simple. Right and left doglegs, short and long holes, and a network of ten lakes create a varied test in which placement matters throughout the round. The course’s tree-lined character and open views give it a distinctly strategic, rather than purely athletic, identity.
History: The club was founded in 1954 on land at Sítio do Caiapia, but the course history has a more precise sequence. Argentine architect Luther Koonz directed the design, the first course was inaugurated on 21 April 1958, and the other nine formed the 18-hole layout by April 1969. São Fernando’s development therefore spans the club’s 1954 foundation, the initial course and the later completion of its current 18-hole scale.
Did You Know? São Fernando has a substantial competitive record for a private Brazilian course. The club has hosted the Brazilian Open six times and the Brazilian Amateur nine times, while the lakes remain active strategic features rather than background scenery. On the 14th hole, water borders both sides of the fairway, turning a straightforward-looking corridor into one of the course’s clearest tests of nerve and placement.
