Overview: Luhuitou Golf Club is a flat seaside layout on Sanya's Luhuitou peninsula, where trade winds are a constant design element. Nelson Haworth lists the course at 7,310 yards, 18 holes and par 72. Wide fairways provide room to play, but large bunkers and water hazards are positioned to punish a careless line. Because the site had little natural elevation, the design team moved substantial fill to give the holes more depth and movement.
History: The course opened in 2007 and became one of Sanya's signature city-accessible golf venues. Sanya's government guide credits Nelson and Haworth Golf Course Architects, while the designer's own project page records the opening and completed dimensions. Luhuitou has also hosted the Hainan Open and more recent golf-industry events, keeping the course connected to professional and destination golf.
Did You Know? The peninsula setting means wind is not a conditional hazard that appears only on a stormy day. Nelson Haworth describes constant trade winds, and the course responds with wide fairways plus strategically placed sand and water. The design uses a flat site without making it flat in strategic terms.
