Overview: Near Mijas Costa, Santana Golf presents a tree-lined championship setting across a former agricultural estate between the coast and the foothills of Málaga. Cabell B. Robinson used the land's gentle relief to create broad, walkable fairways framed by mature trees and Mediterranean planting. The course is often approachable from the tee, yet the width can be deceptive because water, bunkers and the position of the green create different strategic questions from hole to hole. It is a layout where a good score comes from controlling the second shot and choosing the correct side of the fairway, not simply from hitting the ball as far as possible.
History: Santana was inaugurated in 2004 as part of the expansion of the Mijas Costa golf destination. The design was entrusted to Cabell B. Robinson, whose work focused on fitting the holes into the existing estate rather than forcing a dramatic artificial landform onto it. The club's identity has remained tied to the balance between a relaxed walk and a demanding championship standard. Over time, the mature trees and restored landscape have become as important to the experience as the original construction decisions.
Did You Know? The property was once an avocado plantation, which explains the course's unusually mature agricultural character and the generous scale of several fairways. The former plantation is part of Santana's identity: the trees and open land help the round feel established even though the course itself dates from the early twenty-first century.
