Overview: On Long Island's North Shore, Sands Point Golf Club provides a private 18-hole layout. A.W. Tillinghast's original design gives the course its traditional parkland structure, with mature vegetation, strategic bunkering and a setting that has evolved from the property's earlier sporting uses.
History: The club was formed in 1927 and opened the course for play on July 21, 1928. Later restoration work used historic Tillinghast aerial photographs as a reference, with Ron Forse involved in returning the layout toward its original character.
Did You Know? Sands Point's early property history included polo before golf became the club's defining sport. The restoration effort therefore works within a landscape with more than one layer of sporting history.
