Overview: Sandia Golf Club in Albuquerque is a high-desert resort course developed by the Pueblo of Sandia, with the Sandia Mountains providing a constant backdrop. Scott Miller’s layout uses the open character of the site, broad desert horizons and carefully placed bunkers to create a course that is visually spacious without becoming strategically vague. The design has the scale expected of a championship resort course, but its strongest identity comes from the New Mexico landscape around it. Native terrain, sharp light and changing mountain views make the setting as important to the round as the scorecard.
History: Sandia Golf Club opened on June 11, 2005, as an amenity of Sandia Resort and Casino. The Pueblo of Sandia developed the course as part of a wider hospitality destination, while Miller provided the 18-hole routing and its championship character. The property later expanded its event facilities, adding another layer to the way golf fits within the resort’s broader role in the region.
Did You Know? The official course overview counts 48 bunkers across the layout, a useful clue to the importance of positioning and recovery play at Sandia. A golf event center was added to the property in 2015, a decade after the course, giving the resort a dedicated setting for tournaments and gatherings as well as everyday golf.
