Overview: Salishan Golf Links is an 18-hole coastal course at Gleneden Beach, between old-growth forest, seaside bluffs and views toward the Pacific and Siletz Bay. The par-71 routing has a Scottish links influence, but its Oregon setting gives the round a different texture: trees and coastal vegetation frame the holes, while wind and uneven lies can change the best line from one day to the next. At about 6,501 yards, the course is not built around sheer length. Its interest comes from the way the land opens and closes, the speed of the ground and the ocean appearing at key points in the round.
History: Salishan Golf Links dates to the mid-1960s, with published course records placing its opening in 1965. Peter Jacobsen and Jacobsen-Hardy Golf Design oversaw a major restoration in 2004, preserving the fast-playing links character while improving playability and opening more ocean views. The course is now part of Salishan Coastal Lodge and remains available to lodge users, club participants and the public. That history explains the course’s blend of established coastal vegetation, resort infrastructure and a modernised layout rather than a newly built resort course.
Did You Know? The 2004 restoration was led by Oregon golf figure Peter Jacobsen, who also played on the PGA Tour. The project was intended to reveal more of the Pacific and Siletz Bay without losing Salishan’s fast-playing original character.
