Overview: Salemsbanan is an 18-hole parkland course south-west of Stockholm, shaped by gently rolling ground, woodland edges and a landscape managed with a strong ecological focus. The course is a par-71 test with enough variation to make positioning important, while the open corridors give different playing levels room to choose a sensible line. Ponds, greens and surrounding vegetation are part of the character rather than decoration, and the round changes pace between more enclosed holes and broader fairway views.
History: Salems Golfklubb was formed in 1988, construction began in 1993, and the first nine holes were ready in 1995. The 18-hole course was inaugurated on 24 August 1996. Svensk Golf identifies Bengt Johansson as architect, while the club’s own history describes later work on the extra nine, irrigation, ponds and green areas. The profile therefore uses 1996 for the exact Salemsbanan routing.
Did You Know? Salem’s ecological management programme includes leaving selected vegetation around ponds and greens to support pollinators and other wildlife. The course is therefore maintained as a living landscape as well as a playing surface.
