Overview: Saint Francis Bay Golf Club presents an 18-hole coastal course where the fairways move through sandy ground, fynbos and the light, wind-shaped landscape of the Eastern Cape. The par-71 routing measures about 5,647 metres and is designed to be enjoyable to walk, but its modest length should not be mistaken for simplicity. Wind direction, uneven lies and the position of the greenside hazards can make the shorter holes especially exacting.
History: Robert Grimsdell laid out the original nine holes in 1975. A second nine was added in 1999 under Maxwell Hulett, completing the modern 18-hole course and turning the club into one of the region’s established coastal golfing destinations. The current layout keeps the natural St Francis character at its centre, with the course sitting between the town, dunes and the wider Cape St Francis landscape.
Did You Know? St Francis Bay’s 18th hole is one of the clearest examples of the course’s coastal style. It is a short par five by modern championship standards, but its position, wind exposure and green approach can turn the finish into a precise test rather than a simple closing birdie chance.
